We feel cold, but we don’t mind it, because we will not come to harm. And if we wrapped up against the cold, we wouldn’t feel other things, like the bright tingle of the stars, or the music of the Aurora, or best of all the silky feeling of moonlight on our skin. It’s worth being cold for that. ~Philip Pullman, Northern Lights

We waltzed through the symphony of autumn and now were trudging our way through the raw winter chill. I feel thankful that I’m a Marylander. We get to witness that kelly green color bleed and transform into a hundred different warmer hues – weeks go by and earth’s palette grows weary and is finally tucked in with a thick blanket of snow… although in Maryland’s case that snow is followed by 15 inches of rain with a couple days of (teasingly) 60 degree weather.

It’s hard to slow down, especially as we get older. The multimedia blasts ads for sales on holidays months in advance causing our lives to sprint by, while we eat our own dust. Waiting to graduate, waiting for that next promotion, along with a thousand other reasons we keep ourselves going, going, going…

Close your laptop and lay your heavy hearted pen down. Step away and step outside. Saturate your body, mind, soul, and mood while filling your lungs with that delicious, earnest, and raw air. Try, try, try to think only of the here and now. I believe F. Scott Fitzgerald said it quite best: “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the [winter].” 🌾
